Being a Sports College is about enhancing a school culture and ethos to provide our students with the best teaching, and the best opportunities. We want all our students to have a positive, meaningful, learning experience that gives them ‘roots to grow and wings to fly.’ It is not about sporting success per se but ,more about broadening opportunities for the development of learning through and beyond sport and PE.
What advantages does it bring us? a fitness suite (open to the community in December) and an ICT room. It gives students access to many sporting opportunities and staff career development opportunities.
Our participation in National projects for QCA has also provided us with the opportunity to develop a profile not just locally, but nationally. Our involvement in such projects has meant that:
- Woodcote students took part in the filming of a video to promote Sports Relief.
- Woodcote students feature on promotional documentation for the Youth Sport Trust.
"We also aim to develop Woodcote as the hub of the community. Our involvement and hosting of the SSCO Partnership has allowed us to have impact beyond our primary and secondary schools. We are working with our partner primaries, our secondary partners, and developing links with sports federations, clubs and with our local community. People and clubs know that sports colleges are keen to foster links, and we will actively develop and support clubs that benefit our students. We are now being approached by organisations wanting to link with us, mutually benefiting our students and their club.
